Fabio Coentrao

The Portuguese professional football player Fabio Coentrao plays left-back for the Portuguese national team. He has also played for Real Madrid, Benfica, and the Portuguese team Rio Ave. Fabio Coentrao has been a Portuguese senior player since 2009 and has played in one European Championship and two World Cups. He was born in Vila do Conde and grew up in the fishing area of Caxinas. In 1999, when he was only 11, he joined the Rio Ave football club and began playing youth football.

Growing up and early life

As a child, he played football, and in 1999, he joined the club Rio Ave.

Job at a Club

It was a good season for Rio Ave in the Taça de Portugal in 2006–07. After being named Breakthrough Player of the Year, he was able to join a number of teams, including S.L. Benfica, which he did in July 2007.

He only made five of the nine league starts he had in 2014–15. He was moved to AS Monaco FC in August 2015 and played his first game there against Gazélec Ajaccio, which they won 1-0.

Madrid won the league title in 2016–17, even though he had only played in three games. Coentrão returned to Rio Ave on August 31, 2018, after ending his deal with Madrid. He was let go at the end of the season, though.

International 

In 2007, when Fabio Coentrao was still under 20, Fabio Coentrao played his first game for Portugal against other countries. He played for his team in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup after being named MVP of the Madeira Cup.

In 2009, he played his first game for the under-21 team and scored a hat trick in a 6–0 win over Qatar in the Toulon Tournament’s group stage. After that, he played in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

In a 5–0 win over Luxembourg on August 10, 2011, the football player scored his first goal for his country. Following that, he took part in the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament.

He hurt himself in Portugal’s first World Cup game and couldn’t play again for the rest of the event.

Coentrao played again in a 2018 World Cup game in Budapest against Hungary. But he had to be carried off on a bed during the first half of the 1-0 win.

Even though he was on a preliminary team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he didn’t make the final group.
